MOREA few words
about factory supply ratings: factories rate their supply yields
in a manner similar to the EPA fuel mileage ratings for
automobiles. They are a reference number only. I suggest to
our color printer customers that most people will experience about two
thirds of the factory yields on the supplies, regardless of the
manufacturer. For Gardenware customers, where the media is often
thicker, more of the resources of a printer and its supplies are being
used during the printing process. If a customer is doing photos of
plants, the amount of toner being used is going to be higher than
the person merely doing bar code labels. These factors must
be taken into consideration when budgeting for supplies.
Additionally, thicker stocks make the heat element, the fuser, work
harder, heat longer and tend to increase wear on the feed
components as well, as most printers are manufactured and optimized for
general office use.
Many printers
ship with starter toners. The replacement options for these
toners are usually significantly higher in toner content with the
higher yield toners usually representing the best value per
page. The starter toners for the C6150 are rated at 2,000
pages.
Lastly, label
stocks use an adhesive that is part of adhering the label to the
mounting surface. Inevitably, some of this adhesive will be
deposited on feed related printer surfaces. This adhesive must be
cleaned off from time to time, or jamming problems will begin.
There is no
guaranty of longevity for the prints produced by these
products. Direct sunlight will fade most images, regardless of the
technology used to print them. If the printed image can be
pointed away from the direct sun, it will last longer.
